The Red-breasted Merganser, Mergus serrator, is common on salt water lagoon, bays and sheltered coasts of Canada ands the U.S. in winter. It is less common inland but occurs during migration from its breeding grounds in Northern Canada. This one is swimming near the jetty at Barnegat Lighthouse in New Jersey.
